Riding for change: Bondi2Berry 2025
Ten years. Three hundred riders and volunteers. Countless stories. And more than $200,000 raised for dementia research.
The 2025 Bondi2Berry Ride to Remember marked a decade of pedalling with purpose. This year felt bigger, louder, and more deeply connected than ever.
What started as a small ride honouring loved ones affected by dementia has grown into a movement, pulling together riders, volunteers, families, and an entire community determined to shift the future of dementia care in Australia. With dementia now the leading cause of death nationwide, this mission has never been more urgent.
Rolling out from Bondi with Dr Marjorie O’Neill MP officially firing the starter’s gun, the peloton stretched toward the coast in perfect formation.
Across the route, pitstops buzzed, support cars kept the bunch safe, mechanics kept the bunch riding, and riders shared the stories of why they ride. The vibe was equal parts hard work and heart.
Kiama’s Mayor Cameron Macdonald welcomed the group to one of Australia’s first dementia-friendly towns, before the final push into Berry they were greeted with the kind of warmth only a small town can deliver.
The Bondi2Berry ride doesn’t just raise money, it funds real research with real impact. This year’s total means at least two new research projects will get the green light. One of them, led by Dr Richard Lobb at The University of Queensland, is developing a world-first blood test to detect CTE, a dementia-causing brain disease currently only diagnosable after death. Imagine being able to spot early signs of neurodegeneration with a simple blood draw? Imagine doctors having a tool to identify risk earlier, monitor progression, or intervene sooner?
That’s what you helped fund... Your ride entry. Your donation. Your encouragement. Your kilometres in the bunch. They all translate directly into research that could change the future for millions.
