Local ferry service from La Perouse - history in the making

MC is a regular visitor to Kurnell and Cape Solander on our weekly rides, and we also enjoy rolling through La Perouse (very regularly).

La Perouse and the Kurnell Peninsula are at the entrance to Botany Bay, and places of historical and cultural importance for all Australians, with Aboriginal cultural sites dating back thousands of years. Kurnell is the site of contact between Aboriginal peoples and the crew of the HMB Endeavour in 1770.

A passenger ferry service operated between La Perouse and Kurnell from 1890 to 1974. Ferry services ceased following severe damage to both wharves after a major storm event.

NSW Transport is currently seeking input to a potential project to reinstate these wharves.

Dream big. We would never cut our Solander ride short, but this ferry would give us many more riding options. Just imagine heading south through RNP via a ferry instead of through the Sydney airport tunnel? We could also get further south for the same ride distance/time.

Do you remember the ferry service? If you do or don't...have your say on what this NSW Transport initiative could have for tourism and the local economy. A great thing for cyclists, walkers, bird watchers, whale watchers - everyone!
