50 years and still rolling

Trends come and go, today technology evolves at warp speed, but what remains constant is the passion for two wheels and the heart of a truly great local bike shop. For the past five decades, MC has been exactly that - a cornerstone of the local Sydney cycling community!
Since 1975 when we started as “Maroubra Cycles”, MC has been more than just a place to buy a bike. It has been a hub for cycling, and a helping hand for countless riders, from seasoned riders to wobbly-kneed beginners. MC isn't just about selling and servicing bikes, we are about building relationships and fostering the joy of cycling.
Servicing bikes, pedalling dreams, and building trust. Every cyclist knows that a good mechanic is worth their weight in gold. The MC workshop has always been the stuff of legend. From routine tune-ups to complex overhauls, and so many “dream builds” over the decades, our experienced team has been keeping our wheels spinning safely and efficiently. It’s that dedication to meticulous service and genuine expertise that has earned the trust of generations of riders.
The world of cycling is bursting with incredible brands and new products, which can be hard to navigate. MC lives by not simply trying to stock everything, but carefully curating what we offer across brand partners and individual products. Importantly, what is available at MC is recommended only after being tried, tested, and in some cases ridden to destruction before being approved by our team - riders who genuinely understand what works best.
More than just a shop. Beyond the wrenches and spokes, MC has always been a part of the local community, supporting local races and events, club rides, and we’ve offered countless bits of free advice, tips, and encouragement over the years. Many riders hurtling around Sydney's routes have cut their teeth as rookies on our iconic MC Saturday & Tuesday bunch rides This commitment was further cemented five years ago with the launch of the MC Clubhouse - a dedicated space for riders to connect, share stories, and fuel their passion for cycling.
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee is as much a part of the cycling experience. It's where epic rides begin with a caffeine kick and end with tales shared over a well-deserved flat white. This fusion of coffee culture and cycling passion has truly cemented the Clubhouse as the heart of MC…a place where camaraderie flows as freely as the espresso. It's the kind of place where you walk in as a customer and leave feeling like a friend, the true mark of a beloved local business.
A celebration of MC’s 50th wouldn't be complete without acknowledging the thriving community that has grown around it, embodied by MC Velo. This innovative initiative, established as a combined riding and social membership, is a testament to the commitment to fostering a deeper connection with customers beyond the workshop. MC Velo members are a part of a vibrant collective and a social backbone to enjoyment on the road that brings new riders together and enhances everyone’s passion for cycling.
It’s all about the vision, determination and dedication to foster a vibrant cycling culture beyond just transactions.
So, after twenty jersey designs, two homes, endless ‘Longest Days’ in the saddle and probably enough inner tubes to stretch to the moon and back…here’s to MC on our incredible 50th anniversary, and many more years of enjoying bikes, hitting the gravel trails and the open road.
